The questions Adelaide families ask before we visit

Selling gold in Adelaide, your questions answered

Plain-language answers to the questions we are asked most. If we have not covered what you wanted to know, call Chris on 0411 108 170 and he will answer it on the phone.

How much do you pay for gold?

90% of the gold value, on every karat. If your piece is worth $2,000 in gold content, we pay $1,900 on the spot.

Do you buy silver?

Yes. Sterling silver at 70% of its silver value. Pure refined silver bullion at $100 per ounce on the spot.

Do you buy platinum?

We accept it, but platinum is rare in Adelaide households. We carry the testing kit and will value any platinum piece you have.

Do you buy gold-plated jewellery or gold-filled chains?

No. We only buy solid gold. If a piece is plated or filled, the gold layer is too thin to recover economically.

Do you buy costume jewellery?

No. We only buy items where the gold, silver, or platinum content has metal value.

Do you buy watches?

Solid gold watches and sterling silver watches only. We do not buy stainless steel watches (Rolex, Omega, Breitling) unless they are solid gold.

Do you buy diamonds?

Yes, high-value gem-quality diamonds typically one carat or larger, in pieces like wedding rings. We do not buy lab-grown or industrial-grade diamonds.

What if I change my mind after selling?

Once payment is made and you have your cash, the sale is final. We are firm on this for everyday pieces. If it is a highly sentimental piece and circumstances change, talk to Chris, we may be able to hold the item for up to two weeks. Case by case.

What is your policy on stolen jewellery?

We do not condone or buy stolen jewellery. If a piece looks suspect, we will not buy it and we will contact authorities for a serial-number check. Chris has helped victims try to recover stolen pieces.

Will you write me a valuation document?

No. We provide a live in-person valuation on the day and a written receipt showing what we paid. For formal written valuations, see a jeweller or registered valuer.

Do you offer different rates for businesses?

Our rates are the same for everybody. If you are a jeweller closing down, a solicitor handling a deceased estate, or a pawn shop offloading non-moving stock, we would love to work with you on a regular basis. The rate stays consistent.

How far will you travel?

Around 150 kilometres from the Adelaide CBD as a baseline. That covers Barossa Valley, Murray Bridge, Victor Harbour, Adelaide Hills, Stirling, McGill, Campbelltown, Gawler, and the surrounding suburbs. For Whyalla or further regional, we will often meet halfway if the volume is right. Contact us to discuss.

How long does a visit take?

Anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how many pieces you have and how much you would like to chat. We are flexible.

What testing do you use to confirm a piece is genuine?

Acid testing for gold and platinum (the industry-standard reliable method), a diamond tester pen, a jeweller's loupe, and hallmark and stamp reading. Chris has over a decade of experience reading pieces visually before any testing is needed.

How do you pay?

Cash on the spot, PayID, bank transfer, or any combination. No upper limit. Paid immediately on agreement.

What is on the receipt?

Each item you sold, the agreed payout for each piece, and the total paid. You keep a copy, we keep a copy. The receipt shows what we paid, it does not list the spot-rate of the day.

What if I think I was underpaid?

Talk to us. We will work the offer out again with you so you can see exactly how we got there. If we made a mistake we will correct it on the spot. Our process is the same every visit: weigh, test, calculate, agreed offer, and the receipt records the lot.

What if my piece turns out to be plated or costume?

We will tell you gently. Many people have inherited pieces they believed were solid gold. We are used to handling that conversation with care.

Can a family member be present at the visit?

Absolutely. If you would feel more comfortable with a family member or friend with you, please bring them. We are used to it and we welcome it.

Can a family member translate?

Yes. We regularly work with long-time Adelaide residents whose first language is not English. Family member translation is fine.

Can I have you come back?

Yes, any time you find more pieces. No minimum value, no extra call-out fee.
